Making a little change

A short story I’ve read which was written by Loren Eisley is the perfect example of the honest meaning of humanity. Making a change that could greatly affect one’s life.
A man was walking along a beach, when he noticed a boy hurriedly picking up and gently throwing things into the ocean. He walked closer to the boy as he was curious of what he’s doing.

Approaching the boy, he asked, “Young man, what are you doing?”
The boy replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
The man laughed to himself and said, “Don’t you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and thousands of starfish out there? You can’t make a difference, you’re kindness won’t mean a thing!”
After listening politely, the boy bent down and picked up another starfish and threw it into the surf. Then smiling at the man, he said, “My kindness made a difference to that one.”
Like the little boy, we should all learn to be kind to everyone around us. Someone we came across in the street might be needy. They may need somebody to talk to. A little time to spare for listening to them won’t hurt. The beggars in the pavement need a little spare coins and food, a bit of bread or a five peso coin will do them a lot. An old person crossing the street needs all the patience you could give in order to help them safely cross, their smile of gratitude is enough to fill your heart and complete your day.
We must avoid to be like the man. We must not be naïve. Being sensitive to what other people need is a sign that you are living, that your heart is beating. We should not ignore the piercing sound of those crying for help. A simple hand held out to help is all that we can offer to them And the truthfulness in these charity work is beyond all the joys this world can offer.
Honest kindness is what the world needs. People of today are kind but they do not know that some of that kindness is not meant for the good of others. Some intend to be kind because they need something. Some do it because they have to. But they do not display kindness because they really are kind. They simply do it just to impress others.
They say that the givers are blessed. I do believe that, those who give are very blessed since they have a lot of spare to give to someone else. They have to heart to lend what they have to others without even asking for payment. Kind people are repaid with happiness. For some reason, when you give whole heartedly to a beggar, you feel happy.
You feel that because you helped without expecting of any return.

Like the little boy, we should make a little kind difference to the people around us, we may not know it, but that little thing we did might eventually turn our lives around.
